In recognition of Black History Month and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I have a dream….
All children worked to their maximum potentials, because they realize the value of education. Youngsters are respectful and supportive of each other at all times. Parents work with us to make certain that their children benefit from all that is offered in the Roxbury Public Schools (We are fortunate that our parents are remarkably supportive.) Violence is eliminated from every school on every day. Profanity is never used, at school and at home. We continue to teach to the curriculum and New Jersey Core Content Curriculum Standards, covering all material by early June of each year. One hundred percent of our children take the standardize tests and all are found to be proficient or advanced proficient (mostly advance proficient, of course). Students smile due to success and achievement throughout each day. Nobody feels rejected or like an outcast. We are accepting of all religions, cultures, and other diversities that make our society rich and interesting. The world achieves ongoing peace. We recognize differences as an opportunity to learn rather than something to fear. Challenged youngsters compensate for their disabilities so they may perform competently and competitively in our changing world. We make time for our loved ones and family members often. Acts of kindness are a part of everyday for every person. Health and well-being is enhanced through medical research without costing billions of tax dollars. We take the time to develop hobbies and incorporate them in our lives. Students all come to school with homework done on a daily basis. Everyone is prepared for large tests and small quizzes. Special reports are handed in completed and on time. All parents remember and attend scheduled conferences as planned and all teachers keep to their schedules to the minute so nobody has to wait. All busses arrive at Kennedy Elementary School by 3:10 PM, punctually. Parents are successfully notified about early dismissals through Honeywell (hopefully, only one message necessary) so everyone gets home safely in a timely manner. Delayed openings seem like half days rather than double days. Happiness and positive self-esteem are viewed as by-products of acts of kindness, hard work, dependability, extra effort, teamwork and love rather than rights of passage. I had a dream that there was no more war, no more killing, and no more hatred. I had a dream that SNOW did not start in October and did not present hazardous driving conditions. As long as I continue to work with children, I will continue to believe in my dreams, for it is what gives us strength, hope, and compassion for our future.
