Lincoln Roosevelt PTA Meeting

Meeting called to order at 7:34 pm

 

Secretary’s Report: Minutes from February 21st meeting were approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Budget reviewed and approved

 

President’s Report:

  1. Candidate’s Night recap – approx 120 attendees, wonderful moderator, $25 donation sent from Roxbury Council of PTA’s to Morris County Council of PTAs as a Thank You.  Thank You note also sent to moderator.
  2. Earth Day Programs – gave Mr. Deery & Mr. Curtis 4 bags loaded with giveaways from Roxbury Clean Communities to distribute to teachers for Earth Day awareness.  Regular emails being sent with helpful hits around recycling, etc.  All PTA minutes, agendas & newsletters will no longer be printed, will be available on-line.
  3. Committees for 2008-2009 – some open spots; will look to fill after Spring Break.
  4. Executive Board for 2008-2009 – Diane is the only returning member; will talk to 4th grade parents at orientation and possibly send out a mass email, if needed.
  5. Budget & Bagel presentations – one left on April 14th.  We are splitting the cost of bagels with EMS & Franklin.
  6. Meeting Dates for 2008-2009 – PTA meetings will be the 3rd Thursday of each month, will work with Mr. Curtis for other dates.  Committee heads are getting their dates in place.  Calendar will be posted on website.
  7. Bensi Reminder – April 14th all day for lunch & dinner service.  15% of gross profits being donated to L/R.

 

Principal’s Report: Mr. Curtis and Mr. Deery were in attendance

  1. Thanks to PTA for the money to purchase four Dell laptops to use with the Mimeo “smartboards”.  Mr. Curtis will give a demonstration of the hardware/software at the May PTA meeting.
  2. There will be a 6th grade dance in June, parents will be able to chaperone.
  3. Don’t give up hope on one day environmental trip for 6th grade just yet; Mr. Deery is still trying to work out something.
  4. Arbor Day is April 25th; FYI packet explains holiday & tree being planted on the day.
  5. Walk-thru of Superintendent candidates scheduled for week of April 14.
  6. New vacation and cell phone policy will be going home in backpacks shortly.
  7. Tree in “connecting area” has served many purposes this year.  Last month it was a “poe-tree” this month, a “geome-tree”.
  8. May 5th – May 8th is NJ ASK testing, info coming home with report cards
  9. Jump Rope for Heart (American Cancer Society) sometime in June.

 

Committee Reports:

Fund Raising: Found a new vendor who is very willing to work with us, lots of incentives, will be using the same company for Holiday Shoppe, so additional discounts will be received.

Reflections: NJ-PTA sent only 23 entries to National.  Of those, 7 were from Morris County and of those 7, 3 were from Roxbury.  All of those 3 came from L/R.  State judging is in April, results will be passed on as soon as known.  District wide recognition program is on Wed, April 30th.  Screening of video and dance entries starts at 6:15, program at 7:00 at EMS auditorium.

Cultural Arts: Next program May 29th, a Brazilian dance and music group.

Book Fair/Family Night: Next book fair is Buy One Get One and will be held the end of May.  Details to follow.

Newsletter: Deadline for submissions for May/June issue is April 28th. Newsletter and PTA minutes are now available online.
