Lincoln Roosevelt PTA Meeting

Meeting called to order at 7:34 pm

 

Secretary’s Report: Minutes from November 15th meeting were approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Budget reviewed and approved

 

President’s Report:

  1. Mini-grants: A digital camera for the library has been purchased.
  2. A chairperson for the plant sale is needed. The sale will take place May 7-9.
  3. The health department presentation on what to do in an emergency has been rescheduled for the March meeting. Notice will go out to parents inviting them to come.
  4. Volunteers are needed to host the board of education candidate’s night debate on or around April 1.
  5. Two members volunteered to be on the audit committee; one additional member is sought.
  6. A battery collection program will go into effect immediately, as part of Earth Day awareness activities. Mr. Curtis still wants to look into other recycling programs for the school.

 

Principal’s Report: Mr. Curtis and Mr. Deery were in attendance

  1. Thanks to Donna Rasmussen and volunteers for a successful book fair.
  2. Code Gold with the busses to be scheduled when weather cooperates.
  3. Save the Children: Motion approved for PTA to donate $40 toward support of sponsored child over summer months.
  4. Motion approved for $1200 to purchase laptops for the “mimeo” system (comparable to Smart Board system).
  5. Acknowledgement to Board of Education for their support for auditorium.
  6. Environmental trip for 6th graders cancelled for this year due to legalities and difficulties in planning. Other options for a single-day trip for this year and options for next year being sought.
  7. “March Madness” FYI packet will focus on math and multiplication tables.

 

 

Committee Reports:

Fund Raising: The committee determined that since the fall catalog fundraiser has traditionally been successful it will be continued; however, new vendors are being sought. Boosters are being considered for this year’s yearbook. Quarterly restaurant nights at Bensi’s and The Outback are being investigated. Generic Roxbury spirit wear will be offered within the next few weeks. Diane Ramage will provide the committee with preliminary budget figures for next year, so that programs to match needs can be developed.

Reflections: Volunteers needed to take down displays at L/R on February 26 and put them up at the Ledgewood Mall on March 10. The display will run at the mall until April 3. The mall will show a video of all performance pieces on March 11 beginning at 4pm. Judging begins at the end of March; 16 L/R students went on to State. Snack cards were given to all students who participated, and budget was exceeded due to volume of submissions.

Cultural Arts: Women’s rights program in March.

Book Fair/Family Night: Both were a great success. Teachers and the library were recipients of $4000 worth of products. Next book fair/family night is BOGO, tentatively scheduled for week of May 27.

Newsletter: Deadline for submissions for March/April issue is February 29. Newsletter and PTA minutes will be available online.
