100 Best Communities for Young People Award

Roxbury Township has been selected as one of the America’s Promise Alliance 2011 100 Best Communities for Young People presented by ING, a national competition to recognize local communities’ programs and initiatives aimed at supporting youth and ending the high school dropout crisis.

Through a collaborative effort between the Township, Schools and Community, Roxbury’s Application for the 100 Best Communities was selected as a first time winner for the Township and is the first town in the State of New Jersey to receive this honor.

Committee Members Brian Feeney, Robyn Lance, Mark Barbone, Deborah Burleigh and Lauren Hepplewhite were in Washington, DC, on Wednesday to proudly accept the award from Alma Powell, while back in Roxbury, NJ, the Township celebrated with other committee members Sandie DiDomenico and Dave Stierli.

Congratulations to our staff, students and community members who make this a great place for our young people to grow, learn and play.

America’s Promise Alliance raises awareness and supports communities to ensure that young people have the fundamental resources needed to graduate high school and succeed in college, work and life. Its signature competition since 2005, 100 Best Communities for Young People presented by ING is part of the Alliance’s Grad Nation campaign to end the high school dropout crisis and prepare young people for college and the 21st century workforce. The competition honors communities that are committed to creating brighter futures for America’s young people by helping ensure that all graduate from high school and are doing their part to help end the nation’s dropout and workforce readiness crisis.  The competition is open to all communities that make children and youth a priority, from small towns to large cities, to local counties and school districts.
