EMS Receives State Farm Grant

Eisenhower Middle School located in Roxbury, recently received a grant from State Farm Insurance for their Conversations with Heroes Dinner Party Exhibit. The students created a life size model of a dinner party which included as guests: Anne Frank, Abraham Lincoln, Sally Ride, Sonia Sotomayor, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Leonardo da Vinci, Martin Luther King and Albert Einstein. With the grant from State Farm the dinner party will be able to travel along with EMS students and the projects founder, art educator, Mrs. Marie Pessolano. While visiting the elementary schools in the area, students will not only view the exhibit but will explore the character education aspect of the project by answering questions such as: What might Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln talk about? What would Sally Ride say to Anne Frank about courage? What questions would you have for Albert Einstein or FDR? Students will also be able to have their picture taken with one of the Heroes which will then serve as a writing prompt. Mr. Scott Shaw, principal of Eisenhower Middle School said, “State Farm has given us an opportunity to share the brilliant echoes of history with the rest of the community.  We are excited to connect with others beyond the walls of EMS.”
