In Roxbury we are in a unique position for continued learning opportunities outside of our traditional school day.
The Roxbury Community School offers a link to the greater community for an enriched and well-rounded education for all. Through the Community School, we offer many courses for children, teens and adults. Our staff works with our instructors to develop programs and trips that would be of interest to the community. We offer something for everyone and our services help enhance the quality of life and education for everyone in Roxbury. Our courses are offered in our district facilities and also in specific off-site locations indicated in our brochures. Courses offered through the Community School are self-supporting and a minimum number of participants are necessary in order for a program to run.
In our spring and fall brochures you will find courses on Parenting, Health & Fitness, Professional Development, Arts & Crafts, Dance, Computers, P.S.A.T. and S.A.T. Preparation, Kid’s Corner, trips, and more. During the summer we also offer a traditional Summer School Make-Up program and a General Enrichment Camp with extended morning and afternoon hours for working parents.
During the Academic Year, in an effort to increase communication between home and school and to help children achieve grade level expectations, our grade level students benefit from our homework programs at Eisenhower Middle School and Lincoln/Roosevelt. This program has been designed to provide students additional support needed in order to complete their assignments. In addition, this year we are committed to increasing this support by inviting our High School National Honor Society students back to assist students with individualized tutoring. With the guidance of certified teachers and aides our students are given resources and strategies to help them achieve success. Homework programs are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. In addition to the many programs we offer, Broadway Show Trips have proven to be our fastest selling community favorites. Our program assistant works directly with a wonderful ticket agent who provides us incredible values and amazing seating for the very best on Broadway. Don’t hesitate… but register quickly to secure a ticket to your favorite show. We still have a few tickets left for Radio City’s Christmas Spectacular on December 10th should you be interested in bringing someone special to see the famous Rockettes!
In our spring brochure, we are excited to offer Mary Poppins, Wicked, and A Chorus Line, Spamalot, The Lion King & Jersey Boys as our Broadway Trips. Our brochure becomes available to the public in mid January and is sent home to all residents of Roxbury. Check your mailboxes!
