Introduction
As technology, communication and business internationalize many aspects of our lives, mastering a second language is becoming more and more valuable. The study of a world language is in keeping with the finest tradition of a liberal arts education.  Recognizing this fact, many colleges require a minimum of two sequential years of world language study in high school. The NJ State Department of Education mandates 5 credits (one year) of language study as a minimum requirement for graduation from all NJ high schools.
At Roxbury High School a student may elect to study French, German, Spanish, or Japanese. Those students who started World Language study in earlier grades would have a five-year sequence available to them. Honors level begins in the second year for all languages.
