The Adventures of Waldo’s Brothers

Finding Waldo can be frustrating,

So I’ll just let you know

I am in the middle of the North American Continent.

Affectionately known as a “Melting Pot”

So look inside this envelope

The one, I (Waldo) mailed ya’,

You’ll find the states that make up the United States

Put them together and label them,

And when you are all done,

I will tell you where you should place Waldo #1.

Waldo #1 is in the state where hurricane Katrina destroyed one of our most famous historic cities.  The city where I am staying is where musician Louis Armstrong was born.

This beautiful city is known as "New Orleans."

Label the waters surrounding the United States. Go to the most northwest portion of the ocean. You will find Waldo #2.

Put Waldo #3 in the Pacific Ocean, which is the world's largest body of water.  Place #3 just of the coast of Los Angeles.

Waldo #4 is visiting the capital, of the United States. What does that D.C. stand for anyway?

Place Waldo #5 in that big city that everyone knows as N.Y.C.  The date of September 11th is significant to this city.  N.Y.C. is where the baseball team, the Yankees, calls home.

Place Waldo #6 is in Denver, Colorado.

It is located at the base of the Rocky Mountains. Denver is one mile high.

What do you think the cities nickname is?

Waldo #7 is in the area where the Wright Brothers made the first successful powered flight by man at Kill Devil Hill near Kitty Hawk.  The Wight Memorial at Kitty Hawks now commemorates their achievement.

Waldo #8 is smelling the Sego Lily, which is the state flower on a field near Salt Lake City.

Waldo’s brother number #9 is a Nascar enthusiast. On November 20th, he is going to the Homestead-Miami Speedway.  Click on the picture to the right to find where he is going to watch his first race.  This area is  considered to be the “sunshine state”.   Where do you think that could be?

Waldo #10 found an area in the United States that has more than 11,000 inland lakes.  Also, you are never more than 6 miles from an inland lake or more than 85 miles from a Great Lake.  This state is known as the “Great Lake State”.  It’s shores touch four of the five Great Lakes.  Waldo is at the shores of  Lake Michigan by the Grand Rapids.

Waldo #11 dreams of being famous at one point in his life.  Therefore, he has decided to travel to places of famous people.  He decided to start with the most famous rock star of all.  Your clue is he likes blue suede shoes.  This rocker is the undisputed “King of Rock 'n' Roll” and lived in his beloved Graceland Mansion in Memphis, Tennessee!  Place Waldo #10 in Graceland.  Who is this famous rocker?

After years of studying history, Waldo #12 likes to visit historical sites.

He wants to see the area where heads are carved from stone.  Sculptor Gutzon Borglum’s completed the project in 1942.

Borglum's attention to detail makes the faces of the Presidents Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson appear almost lifelike in the morning and afternoon sun of the Black Hills.

Place Waldo #12 on the site of Mount Rushmore.

Can you find the four rivers in the United States?  Highlight them on your map and write them down on your paper.

Waldo #13 favorite river in the United States is the Mississippi River. The river is 2,340 miles in length.  Place Waldo #13 on the Mississippi River.

Waldo #14 is crazy about hiking the mountains.  He chose to hike the Appalachian Mountains or Appalachians, this year.

The great mountain system of eastern North America is nearly parallel with the Atlantic coast. It extends from the province of Quebec in Canada to Northern Alabama.

Please place Waldo #14 on the Appalachian Mountains in Northern Alabama.

The youngest brother of Waldo #15 has decided his favorite leisure

activity is boogey boarding at the Jersey Shore.  Actually, he loves Long Beach Island, Ship Bottom, to be more specific. Please place Waldo on the beach at Long Beach Island.
