Subject:              Technology and Language Arts.

Level:                  2nd Grade

NJ CCCS:          Language Arts 3.2 Reading and 3.2A Spelling
Technology  8.1 Basic Skills & Tools

Goals:                 The student would review previous learned skills and apply them successfully in a new project.
The student would think of skills he/she has accomplished and relate to others in a positive way.

Objective:          The students would use MaxShow tools confidently and successfully to create their t-shirts.

Method:

1. Teacher will  create a T-Shirt form in MaxWrite using the Shapes Tool. (I used a rectangle for the main body of the shirt, squares for
the sleeves and an  oval shape for the neck. I copied it and placed a copy in to each child's folder on the network.)

2. When the children came to class, they opened their folders and opened their shirt format in the program MaxShow.

3. They used the Color Tool to fill in the background Color of their shirt.

4. They used the Word Art Tool to create their name. selected a format shaped to fit around the collar of the tee shirt.

5. They used Word Art also to type in the message: "I'm T-rriffic because...."

6. They used a text box to type in 4 sentences beginning with the words I can.... I can sing, I can read. I can dance. etc. )

7. They saved a copy  to their folders and then printed out their tee shirts. They cut them out and I glued them onto construction paper
for better backing support for the hallway display on the bulletin board.

8. A strong twine and small clothes pins were used to hang the shirts in the hallway of the school. Some were hung on the Bulletin board
with a much larger shirt displaying the   I used the enlarger to create a larger Tee Shirt to type in what the children had done to create
their shirts.  The children were excited about this project.

  Technology and Curriculum Integration:

Technology learning skills  were as follows:

The children used previous knowledge to open their folders up on the network.
The children had used the tools Word Art and Text Box previously in the slideshow lesson. "All About Me"
They also knew how to fill in the background color for their shirts from a previous lesson.
Saving, naming their file and printing was also previously learned.

Curriculum Connection:

Language Arts:
The children used Capitalization at the beginning of every sentence and when ever else it was required.
Punctuation rules were discussed and followed. Also discussed were the placing of periods at the end of sentences.
Spelling was checked  on all the shirts, and corrected as needed.
All Tee Shirts were checked for correct spelling, capitalization and punctuation by the teacher and the student. Each shirt was read to the teacher before saving to their folder or printing.
