About the Sports Med Club
Click on Link for the contract which must be signed by parent and student to join the club:Meeting Schedule: All meetings will be held in the athletic training room from 3:15-4pm unless otherwise noted (dates and times may be subject to change due to the athletic event schedule)September 20October 3November 14December 5January 2February 6March 5April 2May 16June 4In order to receive credit for participation in the club you must sign a contract and abide by the rules.
o Observations hours can be performed (which count as school community service hours, NOT COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS FOR NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY) in the Roxbury High School athletic training room.
o Examples of topics reviewed during observations in the high school athletic training room will be:
§ Basic first aid principles
§ Taping and padding techniques and equipment fitting
§ Injury evaluation and rehabilitation techniques
§ *at no time will a student be able to treat an athlete*
7: o Held in the athletic training room or otherwise noted
o Various topics in the field of sports medicine will be discussed
o Other allied professions such as physical, occupational and massage therapies, chiropractic medicine, podiatry and orthopedics may be discussed
o Guest speakers
· $20 fee to join the club:
o Includes a t-shirt
o Fee includes expenses for field trips and/or activities
§ In the past the club has gone to Newark Hospital-trauma unit, Rutgers University’s athletic training facilities, and Seton Hall’s University athletic training facilities.
· Student and parent/guardian must sign a contract stating that the student will abide by the rules of the club or they will not receive credit for participation.
