P.E.A.K. for Gr. 5 & 6
Providing Enrichment and Accelerated Knowledge | Roxbury School District's G&T Programming
The Roxbury School District works to identify students in Grades 5 & 6 who possess gifts and talents related to Core Content Areas to maximize their learning potential. P.E.A.K. at these grade levels uses criteria-based qualification, and follows a pull-out model that meets once a week for 40 minutes.
How does my child qualify for the P.E.A.K. program for Grades 5 & 6?
Identification Process: The Roxbury School District will work effectively and creatively to identify potentially gifted students in grades 5 & 6 for pull-out STEAM enrichment using the following measures:
Measure #1: IXL Diagnostic Test Scores - Reading and Math (completed 2 times a year with their classes)
Measure #2: Student essay (completed in school)
Measure #3: Classroom grades / performance
What is the criteria for qualification?
- IXL Diagnostic scores of 550 and above
- Classroom grades
- Essay (completed in school)
- School based committee will use data listed above to determine eligible students.
How many kids are admitted into the program?
There is no set limit or quota for the program, it is open to all that meet the criteria set above. For 2019, we will be hosting (2) 9 week sessions. Students may be invited to attend:
Session 1 (January 7 - March 18)
Session 2 (April 1 - June 10)
BOTH Session 1 and 2
When will students be invited to enroll in the program?
Qualifying students will be invited to enroll in the program via letters that will be sent home through USPS in the December.
If my child does not qualify now, will there be another opportunity?
All students in grades 5 & 6 will be reassessed for the P.E.A.K. program each fall.
