Welcome to the Art Room
The curriculum of the Art department at Eisenhower Middle School is based upon the concept of the Discipline Based Art Education principles. The DBAE is an approach to teaching art that makes use of four foundational disciplines to teach art concepts and skills. These disciplines are art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics. A DBAE curriculum balances content from the four areas presenting interdisciplinary, cross-curricular studies while allowing students to develop perceptual awareness, critical thinking skills and an understanding of art. Using this method our cycle course objective is to expand the student’s knowledge, abilities, and critical judgment as well as introduce new media and skills while emphasizing art history, the elements of art and principles of design.
What can ART do for your child?
Art teaches students to be more tolerant and open. Art promotes individuality and boosters self-confidence. Art helps students develop more appreciation for the world around them. It helps students develop a sense of craftsmanship, quality task performance and goal setting. Art strengthens students problem solving and critical thinking skill which in turn improves the child’s overall academic performance.
