Pg. 8 - RCS BASES Program Registration (Pg 8)
CHILD BEHAVIOR POLICY/CODE OF CONDUCT
The child behavior policy is in place to assure that there are uniform guidelines for behavior management within all RCS BASES programs. It is expected that all families enrolled understand the policy that RCS BASES follows when dealing with matters regarding inappropriate behavior. It is the goal of the RCS BASES staff to set appropriate limits for the children to succeed within. Staff will give acknowledgement to children when they cooperate, share, and participate. The staff will also encourage children to resolve their own conflicts using conflict resolution methods and will intercede when needed.
When inappropriate behavior occurs and/or persists, RCS BASES staff will help the child understand why the behavior is not acceptable, discuss the consequences of that behavior (timeout, removal from activity, etc.), as well as provide alternatives to use in the future. It is required that RCS BASES staff document any inappropriate behavior that results in physical or verbal harm to a child’s peers, staff, or themselves to the child’s family. Parents/guardians will be notified of the inappropriate behavior by one of the staff members or the Community School.
The family of the child may be contacted by the Program Supervisor and/or Program Teacher. The desired outcome from the conversation/meeting is to produce positive behavior guidelines for the child, with the staff and families in agreement. The behavior guidelines must then be met and improvements seen within a two-week period of time. During this time, parents should plan for alternate care. After this period, the decision will be made for the continuation or discontinuation of the child’s enrollment in the RCS BASES program. If enrollment is canceled, the Program Supervisor and Community School Coordinator will decide either the length of time that a suspension is necessary or if the child will be permanently removed from the program. There will be no refund of fees paid if a child is suspended from a program.
If a child’s behavior requires that a family member pick up a child earlier than the time of program closing, you will be notified by the Program Instructor and expected to pick-up within 15 minutes of the call. The Program Supervisor has the discretion to immediately remove a child, either temporarily or permanently, from the program if the child is at risk of causing serious injury to other children or himself/herself; the parent threatens physical or intimidating actions towards children, staff members, or other parent/guardians; or the parent exhibits verbal abuse to staff in front of enrolled children. All other possible reasons for expulsion will be discussed with the parent prior to the child being removed from the program. Please refer to the Discipline & Expulsion Policy that is included in your Parent Handbook.
Enrollment in all RCS BASES programs requires agreement to the behavior policy.
Rights - Students have the right to attend a school that is safe, clean, in good repair, and drug-free where they and their property are respected at all times and under all circumstances.
Responsibilities - Students have the responsibility to follow directions given by those in authority, respect the rights and feelings of others and their property, keep themselves drug free, maintain a clean school environment, and refrain from acts of violence or vandalism. Any item that may be perceived as a threat to a person’s safety in the school environment, such as a knife or other weapon, will be banned from participating in BASES.
We have a range of students in our program from Kindergarten through fourth (sixth grade) depending on location. Topics of conversation or explicit language (shouting, obscene language, or vulgar content), fighting, or roughhousing is not permitted. The same respectful rules that apply during the school day apply at BASES
Students will keep their hands and feet to themselves at all times.
If a student speaks of or acts upon harming themselves, the parent/guardian and the school will be notified.
In cases of stealing, losing, and/or destroying BASES or another’s property, restitution will be expected and may have other consequences.
CELL PHONE USE AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Please keep all cell phones and other personal electronic devices* at home. If your child must have a device with them during BASES, please note that it must remain in the child’s backpack, out of sight, and powered off. If a phone, or other device, is taken out and utilized during BASES, it will be taken by a staff member for safekeeping until a parent or guardian can come to claim the device. * The term “personal mobile devices” includes cell phones, smart watches, iPads, tablets, or any other electronic device not owned by the school district.
