Monday night’s board meeting also recognized two teams from Roxbury High School.
The first was the high school baseball team for being North 1 Group 3 State Champions. The students recognized were JJ Beale, Justin Bosland, Beau Braun, Brian Dachowski, CJ Danna, Nick Danna, Matt Dettlo, Ryan DiTrolio, Jack Findlay, Will Findlay, Jakob Giammarino, Derek Henches, Brendon Hoagland, Chandler Keith, Travis Kerr, Landon Monro, Joe Otto, Jared Schimenti, Matt Seminara, TJ Shuman, and Anthony Tye along with coaches Greg Trotter, Kevin Murray, Josh Boyd, and Ryan Roumes.
Also recognized was the high school golf team for being the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference National Division Champions. Those recognized included students Brendan Berman, Cole Brembs, Will Fulton, Tyler Marston, Robbie Sarafin, and Ryan Sclar along with Coach Dave Monaco.
Another impromptu special presentation was added to the agenda when Freshman English teacher Maria Rispoli had six of her students present their research on various topics.
Rispoli explained, “Students were asked to act locally on an issue of importance that they identified in the world. This is a response to Eli Wiesel’s Peril of Indifference in which he asks us to take action and to make change. They did intensive research. They identified a problem on a global level and they brought it down as far as they could, as close as they could to the local level.”
Kate Rice, Sarah Rice, Nia Mullengada, Gehad Moustafa, Daniela Palmucci, and Julia Mayor shared their perils of indifference on six different topics. Some of the topics included teen depression, mass shootings, plastics and marine line, adulting classes for students, a share bin for unwanted food, and the dress code. All six explained some of their research and possible ways to make changes in school and community to address these perils.
