Brownie Troop 96603 prepares to make sandwiches

ROXBURY, NJ (May 22, 2019) – Brownie Girl Scout Troop 96603 that meets at Franklin Elementary School in Roxbury Township made up of 15 girls and four leaders got together on May 6th to take part in a Project Kind event.

Brownie Troop 96603 assembly line These eight and nine-year-old girls in their second year of Brownies made 100 peanut and jelly sandwiches and bagged them along with some other treats as part of Project Kind, a non-profit organization that helps serve the community.

Brownie Troop 96603 final bagged sandwiches Brownie co-leader, Lori Romano shared that her other co-leader Kristine VanIderstine had done this project on our own and suggested that the girls do it. “The girls were excited to do it.”

Adding, “We wanted to do a community service project and Kristine had suggested this. We used some money that we earned selling Girl Scout cookies and also Wharton ShopRite made a generous donation, so much so we made the 100 sandwiches, which each bag included a sandwich, water, package of tissues, napkins, sandwich crackers, and a bag of chips.”

In addition to the sandwiches, the girls attached inspirational quotes on each of the bags before delivering them to Project Kind to be handed out to the homeless in Newark, NJ.

“This project ties into the girls working on a community service project which is always suggested and will be mandatory at some point. The girls did a great job working collaboratively with each other and a felt good knowing they were doing good for others. Project Kind was very appreciative and the girls would love to do it again,” said Romano.
