Harlem Wizards game with players and kids

ROXBURY, NJ (February 1, 2019) - On a blistery Friday evening on January 11th, the Roxbury High School gymnasium was on fire with some fantastic basketball fun! Jefferson School PTA sponsored the Harlem Wizards event that sold out the entire venue. This event drew in a crowd from all Math Supervisor Jeff Fiscina gets schooled by Wizards around the district as the Roxbury staff put together a team representing all seven schools and even Central Office. This fun-filled family fun night proved to be a success and provided an entertaining evening for many of our families and friends.

Jefferson School sings the National Anthem Jefferson PTA President, Erin Goodman, shared, “It was hard work putting the event together and we are very lucky to have such an amazing group of parents and staff that came together to benefit the children!” This was Jefferson School’s major fundraiser for the year in which they collected over $13,000 that will be put towards upgrades to their outdoor playground.

The evening opened with a pre-game warm-up for a group of the children, followed by the singing of our National Anthem by Jefferson’s 4th Grade Chorus and the local Boy Scouts as Colorguard. Over thirty staff members volunteered to take on the Wizards in a fun game with many jokes and skits.

During the third quarter, the Eisenhower Middle School basketball teams had the opportunity to play the Wizards as well. One of the students put it perfectly. “I was smiling all night,” says student Lauren Simmerano, “I was laughing so hard when they picked up my friend and tossed his shoes!”

It was definitely a great evening and Jefferson would like to thank the entire community for their support.
