Jefferson First Grade Giving Tree a Huge Success

ROXBURY, NJ (January 8, 2021) – Leading up to the holidays, first-graders at Jefferson Elementary School put out a call for hats, gloves, scarves, and socks for Roxbury Social Services. Their “First Grade Giving Tree” community service project was a success according to Derrick.

“Even though we switched to all-remote learning, our students and their parents dropped off items at school for our tree! Members of our community, including teachers, staff, and even some retired teachers pitched in to help as well!”

Thanks to all the donations Derrick will be donating six large bags of hats, gloves, scarves, and socks to Roxbury Social Services this week.

“I am so happy that even during these challenging times, our Jefferson School community was still able to show tremendous koala-kindness and generosity!”

Jefferson Principal Melissa Cosgrove commended their efforts sharing, “Thank you so much first-grade team for continuing this tradition of community service! It really teaches the students about the spirit of giving. I am so happy that the current circumstances didn’t hinder this service project for our children.”
