Kindness Matters at Kennedy Elementary School

Kennedy's Kindness Matters Poster Contest Winners, one from each grade level  

ROXBURY, NJ (February 22, 2019) – Students at Kennedy Elementary School in Roxbury Township participated in The Great Kindness Challenge from January 28th through February 1st by putting their creative skills to work to help spread the word of kindness. 

This challenge was for one week and meant to encourage students to be kind to one another. To kick off The Great Kindness Challenge, the school held a “Kindness Matters” poster contest to encourage the Kennedy School community that Kindness Matters. 

Students were asked to consider the following when creating their posters:

  • What is Kindness?
  • How can you show kindness in school, at home, and in the community?
  • How does being kind make the world a more peaceful place to live?
  • Why is it important to be kind? 

Kindness Certified School logo for 2019 The posters that displayed the theme “Kindness Matters” in the most meaningful way earned a prize. One winner was selected at each grade level. All students though that participated received a certificate and were part of a group photo. 

The “Kindness Matters” poster contest winners were:

  • Pre-K: Ethan Hild
  • Kindergarten: Grayce Coutts
  • 1st grade: Brielle Pink-Patel
  • 2nd grade: Wesley Castro
  • 3rd grade: Zara Wyhopen
  • 4th grade: Ara Ameri 

Kennedy Principal Nicole Acevedo shared, “I would also like to congratulate all of our students who participated. The posters were amazing and truly reflected the meaning of kindness at KES and in the community.” 

The event concluded on World Read Aloud Day where the school had volunteers coming in to share a “Kindness” themed read aloud for the students. 

The Great Kindness Challenge is one week dedicated to creating a culture of kindness and compassion on campuses worldwide. 

Acevedo added, “Our school is proudly participating in this proactive and positive kindness initiative. Together, we are able to show the world that Kindness Matters.” 

Kennedy School proudly announces that they are a Kindness Certified School. According to GreatKindnessChallenge.Org, districts use the Great Kindness Challenge as a free tool to create a culture of kindness. They demonstrate a commitment to fostering positive, caring, and respective school environments where all students thrive.
