Roxbury School District Initiates Search for Superintendent

ROXBURY, NJ (March 1, 2023) – Roxbury School District has seen the successful implementation of many exciting innovations in recent years under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Loretta Radulic. With her pending retirement at the end of this school year, the Roxbury Board of Education has launched a search to find a new superintendent who can continue to advance opportunities for our children. The search program, under the guidance of the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA), will include provision for students, parents, staff, and the community at large to have a voice in defining a vision for the district and in establishing the criteria that will be used to evaluate candidates for superintendent.

The NJSBA is an independent, non-governmental association of school boards in New Jersey whose purpose is to assist local boards in fulfilling their missions and obligations. The NJSBA provides a wide range of services including training of board members and advocating for school district interests before public bodies.

Charlene Peterson, Field Service Representative for the NJSBA, will lead a presentation of the Roxbury superintendent search program at a special meeting of the Board of Education to be held on Thursday, March 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Eisenhower Middle School auditorium located at 47 Eyland Avenue in Succasunna. Peterson will provide an overview of the search program, schedule, and community survey. She will then facilitate a public session where those in attendance can voice their opinions and suggestions regarding their vision for the future of the district and the criteria for selecting a new superintendent.

“We encourage members from all segments of the Roxbury and Mt. Arlington communities to attend the March 9th public meeting so that they may hear how the superintendent search process is being conducted, learn of arrangements for the community survey, and provide their input. The presentation by Mrs. Peterson of the NJSBA will be recorded and a link provided on the Superintendent Search Public Information Page so that those who cannot attend the meeting can still have the benefit of that information before they start taking the community survey,” shared Board President Leo Coakley.

Adding, “We have taken measures to make this process as transparent as possible while still respecting the individual privacy and confidentiality that is essential to attracting promising applicants.”

“Community input is vital to the establishment of the evaluation criteria for selection of a new superintendent and in shaping our vision for the future of the district. This input will serve as a foundation for the development of an updated Strategic Plan over the summer. District Goals will be established each year for the next several years based on this updated Plan. And progress on these Goals will serve as the basis for the annual evaluation of our new superintendent. It’s all linked together - public input, superintendent selection criteria, district vision, Strategic Plan, District Goals, superintendent evaluation.”

The advertisement for this important leadership position says in part:

The Roxbury Board of Education, Morris County, NJ, seeks an experienced educational leader committed to advancing our vision of “Preparing the children of today for tomorrow…” as ethical and global citizens of the 21st century as envisioned in our Portrait of a Graduate initiative. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Board, staff, students, parents, other districts, and the community to ensure a solid foundation in curriculum and instruction, and to foster a positive collaborative climate in which all children can succeed.

The deadline for receipt of all applications is March 27, 2023. Applications will then be screened and confidential interviews conducted with promising candidates to find the leader who will be the right fit for Roxbury based on the established criteria.

The district website provides a Public Information Page at www.roxbury.org/SuperSearch with superintendent search information and a link to the NJSBA application page. The district page will be updated as the search and arrangements for community input proceed. The link for access to the community survey will be posted on the Public Information Page when the survey is released for participation, expected on or about March 10th.
