NEWS RELEASE

Roxbury Instrument Showcase for Roxbury Grades 4-6

ROXBURY, NJ (May 7, 2021) – The Roxbury Instrumental Music Department will be holding a Roxbury Instrument Showcase for all Roxbury fourth through sixth-grade students.

Students and their families are invited to RVSP to attend the Instrument Showcase on Thursday, May 20th from 4-8 p.m. (Rain Date: Monday, May 24 from 4-8 p.m.) in the Roxbury High School Parking Lot located at 1 Bryant Drive in Succasunna.

To control traffic flow and ensure social distancing, we’re inviting each school to attend at the times indicated below:

  • Jefferson School – 4:00-4:45 p.m.
  • Nixon School – 4:45-5:30 p.m.
  • Franklin School – 5:30-6:15 p.m.
  • Kennedy School – 6:15-7:00 p.m.
  • Lincoln/Roosevelt school – 7:00-8:00 p.m.

If you are unable to come during your school’s scheduled time, you are still welcome to attend any time between 4-8 p.m. Masks are required at this event and hand sanitizer will be available. Families are asked to RSVP to the event at https://forms.gle/BpTp9taXaJSieWJVA

Our goal at the Instrument Showcase is to expose your child to the instruments that are available next year in an interactive format while ensuring the safety of all attendees. During this open house-style event, students will have the opportunity to visit instrument-specific tables and receive a live demonstration and/or performance from an upper-class musician. Students are encouraged to ask questions, as we hope to tailor the demonstration to each child’s specific interest. Students will also have the chance to pick up and hold sanitized sample instruments (per parent/guardian discretion) to help them further develop their preferences. Information about rentals through the Music Den will be available for families, and the instrumental music staff will be accessible throughout the evening. All students who attend will take home a prize and be entered in a door prize raffle!

Over the past few weeks in their classes, students had an opportunity to meet Lincoln Roosevelt music teachers Mr. Barry and Mrs. Katz and watch a short video introducing several instruments. On May 17-18, fourth through sixth-grade students will attend an Instrumental Music Assembly where they will see and hear the instruments live and in in-person! During this assembly, students will have another opportunity to meet our district instrumental music teachers, along with several Roxbury band and orchestra students.

The goal of the Instrumental Music Program is to team with parents, teachers, and the school to develop responsible, respectful, confident, and creative students. The high standards of excellence facilitate musical growth both individually on an instrument and in ensembles.

We look forward to working together to provide the best possible experience for all of our students. If you and your child cannot attend the Instrument Showcase, information regarding signups and instrument requests will be communicated through your child’s general music teacher. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

We are looking forward to meeting you at the Roxbury Instrument Showcase!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kate Katz, kkatz@roxbury.org, 6th Grade Band Director

Mr. Ken Barry, kbarry@roxbury.org, 5th Grade Band Director

Mr. Jim Goodwin, jgoodwin@roxbury.org, Orchestra Director
