RHS Senior Receives NJ Governor’s Award in All-State Chorus

Austin Kurbansade

ROXBURY, NJ (April 18, 2019) – Roxbury High School Senior Austin Kurbansade recently was the recipient of this year’s New Jersey Governor’s Award in All-State Chorus.

Out of over 1,100 New Jersey High School students who auditioned, Kurbansade was one of only four to receive this prestigious award.

The top two scoring students in each section of the NJ All-State Choir, eight students out of 260 are nominated for the Governor’s Award. Students must then do an interview with a panel of music educators and a singing audition on the All-State repertoire. From that two students are selected to receive the Governor’s Award in Vocal Music.

Roxbury High School’s Lead Teacher of the Performing Arts Patrick Hachey explained, “We had two Roxbury students nominated, Austin Kurbansade and Jacob Wood."
