Kindness Makes a Difference at Jefferson School

Jefferson School holds Food Drive for Roxbury Social Services

ROXBURY, NJ (November 1, 2019) – Jefferson Elementary School in Roxbury Township participated in a month’s worth of activities devoted to creating a healthy, drug and violence-free America while showing kindness and compassion to others in October.

Part of this month included Red Ribbon Week in which the red ribbon symbolizes the commitment to reducing the demand for illicit drugs within our community. Roxbury Schools, in cooperation with the Roxbury Municipal Alliance Committee, acknowledged this important month with a district-wide theme of “Strong Together Against Bullying and Drugs.” Students in the district were given the opportunity to participate in district-wide themes and show their commitment to a bully and drug-free school district.

The first full week in October students received “Strong Together Against Bullying and Drugs” bracelets. The following week they received stickers encouraging them to “Team Up for Kindness” while receiving special lunch visits from middle and high school students who were there to encourage the students to take the pledge and sign the anti-bullying banner.

During the month, students and staff were asked to help out in their community by bringing in items to donate to the local food pantry. Announcements were made in school, on social media, and weekly broadcasts. Items collected were broken down by grade level. Preschoolers were asked to bring in baby products while Kindergarteners were asked to contribute baking and snack items. First graders brought in cleaning products. Second graders brought in condiments and juice. Third graders brought in toiletries while fourth-graders contributed non-perishables.

Jefferson School Paraprofessional Nancy Bottona loaded up her car with the donations and dropped them off this week at Roxbury Social Services.
