Nixon School Spreads Kindness this Thanksgiving

Nixon Grade 3 Happy Thanksgiving

ROXBURY, NJ (November 26, 2019) – Third graders at Nixon Elementary School in Roxbury Township recently completed a November Kindness Challenge by collecting items to donate to Roxbury Social Services.

For two weeks students brought in what they could and all donations were delivered November 22nd, just in time for Thanksgiving. Items included canned vegetables, boxed potatoes, pasta/rice, paper goods, etc.

Nixon Donations for Social Services Third graders in Alyssa Bellardino and Stephanie Echevarria’s classes have been learning about the importance of performing selfless acts during their social and emotional learning periods.

“This can be as simple as saying hello or smiling at someone. We as teachers are teaching students that their emotional intelligence is just as important as their academic intelligence. Lessons on kindness are just as important as academic ones,” shared Bellardino.

“Special thanks to the students and their families in both 3B and 3E for spreading kindness and helping others during this holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving from Nixon’s future leaders!”

Roxbury Social Services assists low-income working families, seniors, and people with disabilities, living on fixed incomes. The food pantry exists solely on generous donations from individuals and local businesses as many individuals and families in the Township rely on social services and the food pantry.

Thanksgiving isn’t the only time of year that Roxbury Social Services needs your help, it’s all year! For questions regarding Roxbury Social Services, please contact Janet Wald at 973-448-2026.
