Jefferson School Celebrates Read Across America

Jefferson 4th Grade Readers

Ava and Amanda as Thing 1 and Thing 2 for RAA at JES ROXBURY, NJ (March 20, 2020) – Jefferson Elementary School PTA in Roxbury Township sponsored a Reading Celebration on March 6th which was the culminating event for Read Across America Week.

During the week, the school held spirit days. Monday was dress like a Dr. Seuss character. Tuesday was Grinchiest Green Day and Wacky Wednesday of crazy hair and crazy socks. Thursday students and staff wore Red, White, and Stripes, while on Friday everyone was asked to wear Blue and Gold for Roxbury’s Portrait of a Graduate.

Friday evening was a themed carnival which began with a book raffle and guest speaker Tommy DeNicola, a retired Roxbury Police Officer and former Marine.

Jefferson families were split into two groups. Half did crafts assisted by the Roxbury Women’s Club and listened to Seuss books read by fourth graders. Students were also treated to stories that touched on social-emotional learning topics like kindness and friendship. Popcorn was served for Hop on Pop with the event ending with a carnival of table-top games and prizes.
