Summer Camp with Mad Science (Grades K-5)
Mad Science is the world's largest science enrichment provider. We pride ourselves on the unique and interactive way of teaching students how to make science fun! Using an extremely hands-on and enthusiastic approach, we give students the chance to become Mad Scientists. We have FUN down to a science!

Camps will be offered in half and full day sections, with weekly sign-ups available. Please look at the days/dates carefully, as there are no makeup classes for individual absences. Makeup classes will only be scheduled for canceled classes. Please note that you are to pick up your child from the designated area at the end of each camp day -- children will not be released without parent/guardian.
- Half-day campers should come prepared with a snack.
- Full-day campers should come prepared with lunch & snack.
- Supervised lunch for full day students from 12:00-12:30 PM
- This camp is open to Roxbury and non-Roxbury residents.
- Cost covers instruction and all materials!

WEEK 1:
- Half Day (AM Only) - NASA: Academy of Future Space Explorations - From our Earth's atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system, this hands-on program sends children on a quest for exploration! Comets, planets, stars, and more are all waiting to be discovered. Set your future space explorers on a trajectory from our Earth's atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system!
- Half Day (PM Only) - Rocket Building - This program focuses on rockets and the physics of rocket flight. After learning the model rocket safety code, campers build different types of rockets and even participate in the launching of several rockets.
- Full Day (AM + PM) - NASA: Academy of Future Space Explorations (AM) & Rocket Building (PM)

WEEK 2:
- Half Day (AM Only) - Crazy Chemworks
- Full Day (AM + PM) - Crazy Chemworks (AM) & Jr. Reactors (PM)
- In this awesome Mad Science camp, we will take on the role of Jr. Chemist as we create and concoct with science! From super sticky stuff to the amazing dry ice-capades, each class will take you on a journey through hands-on and amazing science! Create crazy chemical reactions that pop, fizz, and even experiments that glow in the dark!

WEEK 3:
- Half Day (AM Only) | Half Day (PM Only) | Full Day (AM + PM) - Eureka the Inventors Camp (4 Day Camp) - Inventing means curiosity, practicality, necessity, and imaging the future! Join us in our Eureka Camp as we step into outer space by launching self-built stomp rockets. Children will witness a volcanic eruption, and learn how magnets can help search for shipwrecks. They will work together to design and build bridges and boats to eventually escape an island and find their way home! Children will even have the chance to launch projecticles with catapults and a large trebuchet!

WEEK 4:
- Half Day (AM Only) | Half Day (PM Only) | Full Day (AM + PM) - Brixology - Using LEGO bricks, kids build a different engineering-themed project in each class. They explore different engineering fields, including mechanical, structural, aerospace, nautical, and bio-engineering. They use critical thinking and creative problem-solving to test and improve their creations.

- Half Day (AM Only) | Full Day (AM + PM) - Claws, Codes, and Constellations - Children discover how to send secret messages to their friends using special codes, explore how Newton's laws are at work in their favorite sports, and become young astronauts while exploring the mysteries of the solar system.

WEEK 6:
- Half Day (AM Only) - Red Hot Robotics! - Chidlren learn about the uses of robots in our world and spend time experimenting with super cool red-hot robots. They discover the science of circuits and how robots use sensors to explore things around them. They build their very own working robot to take home with them!
- Half Day (PM Only) - Moving with Science - Kids put on their engineer's hats for this exciting week of science activities. They also learn about chemical reactions that they might encounter in their daily live and the nature of birds and beasts, as they take a walk on the wild side of science.
- Full Day (AM + PM) - Red Hot Robotics! (AM) + Moving with Science (PM)

WEEK 7:
- Half Day (AM Only) | Full Day (AM + PM) - Secret Agent Lab (3 Day Camp)- Calling all agents! This camp is part forensics and part "spy science". Step into the shoes of a detective -- uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Students will create, collect, and analyze evidence and discover what skills are necessary as a crime scene lab technician!

The Roxbury Community School is self-sufficient and a course/program must pay for itself. If there are not enough registrants, the course/program will be canceled. The Coordinator reserves the right to remove from class those individuals who have not paid tuition.
There are no refunds for courses/camps AFTER the program starts. All cancellations must be received in writing to comschool@roxbury.org at least seven days prior to the start of the class for a refund. After that date, there will be no refunds.
