Welcome to my website for the 2013-14 school year. If you look left, you will find links to different pages here. Most should be self-explanatory. I try to upload an electronic version of everything we do to the "Files" page under your class. I also put assignment due dates on the calendar section for each class. You can sync my calendar to your phone or tablet to help you remember when something is due.FOR STUDENTS:I have many ways to communicate with me. If you need to have a private conversation and can't meet in person, send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I use Twitter and Facebook to get information out to students as well.My Twitter feed is here: https://twitter.com/MrFlynnRHS
My Facebook page is here: http://www.facebook.com/mrpeter.flynnrhsIf you have a question that you think others might have, post it on my FB page. That way your classmates can read my response. All communication through the above media will be public. Please don't send me a private message. Send me an email for that.I also have a tumblr that I use to make you laugh from time to time. You can find that here: http://mrflynnrhs.tumblr.com/
Students sometimes ask me questions on here for fun. I will not answer anything that is not school appropriate.FOR PARENTS:All of the above social media outlets I utilize are public. You can take a look anytime you like or follow me/like the page to see what type of things I'm putting up there. If you ever have any questions about an assignment we're working on or a book we're reading, please contact me and I'd love to talk to you about it. If you need to contact me, I've found that email works much better than a phone call for the initial contact. Otherwise we end up playing phone tag. If we need to talk by phone, email me and we'll work out a time to talk on the phone so we're not going back and forth. I put a high value on respect, and part of that respect is from me to you and your students. I try my best to keep you informed and answer your questions to the best of my ability.
Degrees and Certifications:
This year is my third year at RHS and my fourth year of teaching. Before coming to Roxbury two years ago, I taught at Pope John High School in Sparta. This year I will be teaching three sections of English 4A, Journalism 1, Journalism 2, Screenwriting (First Semester), and Creative Writing (Second Semester). All of my classes are held in M213. I am also the faculty adviser to the Roxbury Review, our school's newspaper.
My main goal is to help my students become better critical thinkers. I strive to make my classroom a safe place for students to express their opinions. To accomplish this, I emphasize respect. I respect my students and expect them to respect each other and me. I know from experience how frustrating it can be to be in a classroom where expectations are not clearly expressed, so I do my best to explain clearly what is expected of each student.
The easiest way to contact me is through email at email@example.com. If it is something that would be best discussed over the phone, please email me, and we will set up a time that works for both of us. Have a great year!
