    • Program Mission

      In accordance with Policy and Regulation 2464, the Roxbury Township Board of Education recognizes its responsibility for the provision of appropriate instructional adaptations and services for students with exceptional abilities.

      Specifically through the district's P.E.A.K. programming (Providing Enrichment and Accelerated Knowledge), Roxbury Public Schools aim to expose all students to rigorous, age-appropriate S.T.E.A.M., enrichment, extension, exploration, and investigative instructional experiences that lead to higher level thinking related to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards to maximize their learning potential.

      Collectively, P.E.A.K. offers students opportunities to both expand upon the foundations provided within the classroom, and to grow into lifelong scholars by encouraging the development of their own intrinsic motivation to become active model citizens of our society.

    • Whereas S.T.E.M. education refers to the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics; S.T.E.A.M. education incorporates the “A” for the arts – recognizing that to be successful in technical fields, individuals must also be creative and use critical thinking skills which are best developed through exposure to the arts.


    • Program Philosophy

      The Roxbury School District believes that all students are entitled to a productive and equitable learning environment, where identified learners are challenged beyond the foundations already created in classroom settings. The program’s foundation is based upon the 2019 K - 12 Gifted Programming Standards by the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and the Roxbury Township Board of Education Policy and Regulation 2464.

      In keeping with Policy 2464: Gifted and talented students are:

      “students who possess or demonstrate high levels of ability, in one or more content areas, when compared to their chronological peers in the district and who require modification of their educational program if they are to achieve in accordance with their capabilities.”

      The Gifted and Talented Program is therefore designed to encourage students to use problem solving skills and foster real world applications across multiple subject areas.

      We recognize that different people can be gifted in different areas, sometimes in more than one area, and that this giftedness can be cultivated through a rigorous program. Furthermore, we are aware that “[i]n education a growing body of research indicates that the belief systems of teachers heavily influences their students’ possibilities for success” (Blankstein, Failure is Not an Option, 2004, pg 17). The P.E.A.K. program in the Roxbury School District will be an outward display of that inner belief system.


      It is the district's hope that all learners will emerge as creative thinkers, which directly connects with the District's Portrait of a Graduate.
