NJ Sustainable Schools
Since 2016, the Roxbury Township Public Schools has been striving to become more sustainable and green in its policies and practices. The Board of Education and administration made the decision to pursue district sustainability and green initiatives by creating and approving a half of dozen different policies outlining its position and efforts. Click the "Sustainability Policies" link to the left to view those approved policies.
To that end, the district is continuously working toward becoming a Sustainable Jersey for Schools certified district and to have each of our seven schools become certified as well. As of August 2018, all seven Roxbury Schools earned Bronze certification within the program and is now striving to attain Silver certification.
Sustainable Jersey for Schools is a certification program for New Jersey public schools that want to go green, conserve resources and take steps to create a brighter future, one school at a time. Launched in fall 2014, they are a non-profit organization that provides tools, training, and financial incentives to support and reward schools as they pursue sustainability programs. Roxbury Community Asset Mapping
As part of our initiative to achieve Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification, we need to complete a Roxbury Community Asset Mapping. This is a collective inventory of the positive and valued aspects of a community by identifying the places, institutions, programs, and people that contribute to making our communities great places to learn and live.
Community assets can include information on local artists, scientists, and other experts, parks, local historic buildings, and green businesses, but can also include resources like cultural activities and events, arts, cultural and service organizations, social service agencies, and community organizations that are part of the greater community context.
We've compiled a list of over 700 groups that are part of our community that include banks, businesses, restaurants, educational institutions, historical landmarks and museums, medical facilities, parks, playgrounds, and open spaces, transportation hubs, and community organizations. Communication Effectiveness Survey Results
The Roxbury Township Public Schools is striving to become a certified NJ Sustainable School as outlined in the district goals for the year. Sustainable Jersey for Schools is a certification program for New Jersey public schools that want to go green, conserve resources, and take steps to create a brighter future, one school at a time.
As part of the certification process, the district needed to evaluate the effectiveness of its communication strategies and requested the Roxbury community’s assistance to achieve this goal. The district was interested in learning more about the thoughts, feelings, and attitudes towards how Roxbury Township Public Schools communicated with parents, students, staff, and the public. They were asked to complete a survey which closed in May 2017.
